Overview:

Primary Objectives of Position

1. As part of the ACTU research team, to research, analyse and advise on national and international economic conditions and prospects with particular focus on the labour market.

2. To work closely with the ACTU Secretary and the ACTU President in developing and advocating economic and social policies in the interests of Australian workers and their families.

3. To produce high quality economic briefings and prepare submissions in accordance with the strategic focus of the ACTU.

Job Description:

Specific Duties

Work closely with the ACTU President and Secretary as part of the ACTU research team.

Research and develop submissions, briefings and other material as required, for ACTU Officers and committees.

Prepare and present submissions on behalf of the ACTU to external Inquiries and tribunals, as required by the Secretary from time to time.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

SELECTION CRITERIA

Qualifications & Experience

Relevant tertiary qualification Honours in Economics or higher level.

Professional experience in a relevant field.

Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated ability to research and analyse quantitative and qualitative data within tight time frames.

Highly developed verbal and written skills communication.

Capacity to prepare briefings on economic conditions and prospects generally, the economic analysis of social policy options, and on labour market issues particularly.

Capacity to write and present submissions to Inquiries and in public forums.

Highly developed organisational and time management skills enabling the capacity to work consistently under pressure and to meet deadlines.

Demonstrated capacity to work well with others in a team environment as well as to provide leadership to colleagues.

Commitment to and passion for the values of the ACTU and Union movement generally.

Capacity to use computer applications and technology including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, Internet and communications technologies.

Capacity to exercise judgement, discretion and initiative within a politically sensitive environment.

Capacity to work long and irregular hours. Some travel required.

Salary:

ACTU Level 4. $55,792-$61,923.
