Overview:

INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH OFFICER

The Australian Manufacturing Workers Union (AMWU) is one of Australias leading progressive Unions. The AMWU has a vacancy for a Research/Industrial Officer to work in industrial, legal and corporate research across all Divisions of the Union. The Position is located at the Unions Office in Granville but there is the need for some travel.

This is a 12 month locum position, to be reviewed at the end of that period.

Job Description:

The Research Officer is responsible to the State Secretary and has a key role within the State Branch. The successful applicant will work in a small, professional team environment and must be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to the principles of trade unionism and social justice, which underlie all other criteria. Professional responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

Preparation and advocacy of matters before various courts and tribunals; Providing industrial advice and information to Officials, Officers, Organisers, Delegates and Members of the Union; Researching, monitoring and reporting on industrial law developments; Preparation and submissions for internal and external bodies; Conducting corporate and industry research and preparation of reports for Officials as required.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

The successful applicant must have commitment and ability to provide a strong member focus in all aspects of their work and be able to demonstrate strong skills in written communication, analysis of industrial legislation, case law and industrial advocacy.

Tertiary qualifications in law or a related discipline and a current drivers license will be highly regarded.
