Overview:

The NTEU (NSW) is seeking to employ an Organiser for the Branch of the NTEU situated at Macquarie University.

The NTEU is a federally registered union with coverage of academic and general staff in higher education. The NTEU (NSW) is responsible for workers in all NSW universities and their associated student organisations, research institutes and companies.

Job Description:

Duties include:

Coordinate campaigns at the worksite to improve the working conditions of the members, promote the work of the Union and attract new members; Organise members in work units, identify and support delegates and activists and maintain a delegates and activists network; Recruit members to the Union; Promote the professional interests of the members; Provide advice and assistance to members commensurate with the position level appointed; Administrative support for the Branch and its Committee.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

Experience in the trade union movement or in social/community campaigning; A commitment to union principles; Demonstrated skills in organising, recruitment and campaigning; Well developed oral and written communication skills and the ability to build a rapport and deal effectively with people in a range of situations; The capacity to negotiate and advocate for members; Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent work experience; Administration and computer skills including word processing, database management, electronic communication; For the BIO role, experience in collective bargaining.

Desired:

Knowledge of the higher education industry; Desktop publishing/production of print media.

Salary:

$56,061 pa - $63,291 pa, plus superannuation (Level 5 - 6 NTEU National Staff Agreement). NB a 3.5% salary increase is due 31/08/08
