Overview:

The LHMU is seeking a strategic researcher to join a Sydney-based team to conduct in depth research and analysis in support of large, dynamic and new-style organising campaigns. With over 137,000 members the Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Union (LHMU) is one of Australia's largest, and largest growing, Unions. LHMU members work in a wide range of occupations including hospitality, property services, health, manufacturing and community services.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities

* Compiling, researching, summarising and presenting data on industries, companies, individuals and issues in support of LHMU campaigns across a range of industries.

* Assisting in data input and maintenance of computer database files.

* Assisting in production of written materials.

* Contributing to strategic industry campaigns, including planning research, identifying and undertaking corporate outreach opportunities, and working in a team with organisers, communications and other members of a campaign team.

* Monitoring media and trends for relevant companies, industries and issues relevant to the union.

* Work co-operatively as part of a close union organising and research team.

* Other campaign duties as required.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

Skills and Qualifications

* Strong commitment to progressive social change and activist experience.
* Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills.
* Computer literate.
* Ability to work well under tight deadlines and in a team environment.
* Attention to detail.

Desired:

* University degree preferred.
* Previous experience working in research preferred, but not required.
* Financial analysis or corporate research experience helpful, but not required.
