Overview:

The Australian Institute of Marine and Power Engineers seeks applications from people interested in employment as a National Organiser based in our Sydney Head Office.

---
Job Description:

The job will include the following duties:

Regular ship visits; travel to workplaces in NSW and interstate.

Handling of member inquiries and grievances; Dealing with industrial disputes; Representing and reporting to the union as required; and Negotiation of collective agreements.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

Applicants are particularly encouraged from either of the following backgrounds:-

(A)An experienced/qualified INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS practitioner with familiarity with the Federal industrial relations system. Successful completion of tertiary studies in industrial relations and/or industrial law is highly desirable. Relevant experience will be considered. Knowledge of the maritime industry is helpful.
OR
(B)A member or ex-member of AIMPE with substantial working experience in the industry(s) covered by this union and the personal attributes to interpret Awards & Agreements, pursue membership issues and over time learn the intricacies of the Workplace Relations Act.

Possession of a drivers licence is required.

Applicants will need to obtain a Maritime Security Identification Card involving clearance by ASIO and AFP.

The successful applicant will be an energetic and enthusiastic person who is self-motivated and prepared to meet a wide range of challenges.

Demonstrated commitment to the trade union movement is a requirement.

Well developed written and verbal communication skills must be exhibited.

Salary:

$60,000, negotiable having regard to experience.
