The Australian Workers' Union (AWU) is inviting applications for a full time position within its National Occupational Health and Safety Unit. This Unit has been active for many years across a wide range of industries including mining, chemicals, major hazard facilities (oil/gas), general manufacturing, metals, recycling, most agricultural/ pastoral industries, (including shearing), civil construction, racing, wineries and many more. It has an outstanding reputation in the OHS field.

| Job Description: |
The job will require formal and regular OHS inspections throughout workplaces nationally, working with all AWU branches. This will require some familiarity with all the relevant laws and instrumentalities, and an ability to achieve effective change for workers' OHS standards that go well beyond conventional paper work. The job will require the production of guidelines and codes of practice, and the capacity to lead in matters OHS.
The position provides outstanding opportunities for the right person, with scope throughout all the States and various international OHS platforms. The successful applicant will be supported by the AWU - Australia's oldest union with a rich history - to make real impact in OHS, but dedicated commitment to workers' and their families' health and safety will need to be demonstrated.

| Experience & Qualifications |
| Essential: |
Some relevant and direct shopfloor experience is essential, as are some relevant technical qualifications in relation to OHS, and the capacity to understand and conduct OHS research with direct application to improvement of standards. Work within the national Unit will provide the specific and initial background for this position.

| Salary: |
Remuneration will be in accordance with the AWU conditions of employment.
