Overview:

An opportunity is available to work with the HACSU as a Health and Safety Representative Support Officer on a 12 month fixed term basis. The WorkSafe funded project is part of the Health and Safety Representative Support Program to give effect to WorkSafes policy of supporting and protecting Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs).

Job Description:

The aims of the program are to:- Promote the provisions relating to the representation of employees covered in the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 to employees within Department of Human Services Disability workplaces. To encourage the establishment of Designated Work Groups (DWGs) with elected HSRs.

Establish HSR Networks within Government Disability Services to increase HSRs Capabilities and support them in their role, help disseminate solutions and information and build peer support; Promote the benefits and work within a collaborative and consultative framework between DHS and employees on OHS matters consistent with the OHS Act and regulations; To provide access to expertise to assist HSRs to resolve issues at the workplace; Increase the knowledge and skills of HSRs to support them to address

specific hazards and negotiate and participate in consultative mechanisms at their workplaces.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

HACSU is looking for a motivated person with knowledge and experience in OH&S, demonstrated capabilities in networking and communicating with HACSU members and non-members and ability to develop and implement a work- plan.

Achieve the aims of the program

Develop recruitment strategies and material for managing DWG vacancies in Government Disability Services and agree and establish those DWGs Undertake elections for HSRs Empower and support HSRs to undertake their functions under the OH&S Act.

Develop and support HSR networks

Develop and organise H&S information to support HSRs in resolving OH&S issues Facilitate training for new and existing HSRs.
