Overview:

Applications are invited from experienced practitioners interested in working with a dynamic and enthusiastic team of professionals dedicated to the improvement of working conditions and pay in the clerical and administrative industry.

The ASU covers a wide range of industries by virtue of our occupational grouping, in both the private and community sectors. The successful applicant may expect to gain a wide grounding across industries and be given the opportunity to grow and develop within a progressive organisation.

Job Description:

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate experience in providing industrial advice to union staff and members, as well as experience in appearing before various industrial tribunals. The ability to be creative and supportive of union organising campaigns is essential.

The position is full-time for a 12 month period. The position will be based in Melbourne, however some travel within regional Victoria may be required from time-to-time.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

Experience in various tribunals (or their equivalent) including:
Australian Industrial Relations Commission Industrial Magistrates Court Understanding of the rules of evidence and other commission/court protocols Ability to directly brief counsel on behalf of union Ability to research and prepare a case before tribunals or a court Sound interpersonal skills Ability to work as part of team Excellent written and verbal communication skills Capacity to meet deadlines and prioritise work A good work ethic and willingness to assist other officials and members Commitment to the principles of unionism and equity, and a working knowledge of the organising model.
