Overview:

The ASU National Office has a vacancy for an Industrial/Research Officer for a minimum period of 12 months. Applicants should be aware that the position is a maternity leave relief position. The position is based in Melbourne, however, may involve occasional interstate travel.

Job Description:

This position provides industrial and research services to the National Officers. Duties will be as directed by the National Secretary and will include:

Industrial:

Basic advocacy/appearances at AIRC/FWA.

Agreement approval procedures and processes.

Industrial research, including Award and agreement research and analysis, e.g. through AIRC/FWA and other internet databases and sources.

Preparing and filing AIRC/FWA documentation, including:

i. Applications to vary for Wages & Allowances Review and other test cases.

ii. Draft Orders for Wages & Allowances Review and other award variations, including calculation sheets, etc.

Research:

Corporate research, including company searches.

General industry and statistical research.

Award/Agreement analysis for National Officers (as requested).

Other research.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

Advanced computer software skills, in particular Word, Excel, Access database.
Research/data base skills, in particular related to internet based searching.
Writing skills at publishable level.
Familiarity with Federal Awards and Agreements.
Familiarity with the Australian Industrial Relations system and unionism.
The ability to effectively communicate with Branch Officials and delegates in order to assist with enquiries and provide relevant information and assistance.
The ability to promote the values, principles and policies of the union.
Advocacy and presentation skills.

The successful applicant will be required to work effectively without day to day supervision, although regular supervision will be provided by the National Officers.

Projects and tasks will be allocated with given time frames and the successful applicant will be expected to manage their own and other resources in order that these time frames are met.
