Overview:

The Australian Services Union represents administrative and professional workers in local government, energy, community services, transport, finance, call centres, airlines and numerous private sector businesses.

There is a Lead Organiser position available with the South Australian and Northern Territory Branch of the Union. The position is based in Adelaide.

Job Description:

The Lead Organiser will work with the Organising Team and will:

  • develop, support and mentor Organisers to build collective power in workplaces and industries by organising workers;
  • develop workplace organising plans which align with industry plans and the Branch plan;
  • ensure workplans for individual Organisers, which align with industry and workplace
  • organising plans, are devised and implemented in an ongoing fashion;
  • provide one on one support and mentoring for Organisers; and
  • together with the Branch leadership, ensure
  • Branch organising, industrial and campaign objectives are met.

The position offers an opportunity to work together with other staff and members towards the Unions vision: Our Union will be a strong, active and growing Union, organising workers to collectively build power in our workplaces, industries and communities to win better working conditions and to build a just and fair society for all.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

  • Commitment to the Trade Union movement Understanding of and demonstrated experience in all aspects of modern Union membership organising theory and techniques.
  • Ability to effectively devise, implement and work with planning and organising frameworks. Ability to mentor, support and develop Organisers skills, knowledge, attitude and behaviour.
  • Demonstrated ability in creative problem solving.
  • Knowledge of the current Australian and South Australian industrial relations systems.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to work to deadlines.
  • Drivers licence.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Outlook, internet research).

Salary:

Salary will be negotiated between $64399 to $71941 depending on skills and experience. In addition, private use of a motor vehicle or an allowance in lieu of the provision of a motor vehicle will be provided.
