CEPU NSW Telecommunications and Services Branch

The CEPU Communications Division covers members in the postal, telecommunications and IT industries. The T&S NSW Branch has about 2,000 members employed in both the private and public sectors with public sector employment accounting for about 85% of the membership. The occupations of members varies widely from technical officers to operators, trades people to professionals, admin officers, supervisors, white collar and blue collar. What binds these groups together is the fact they all work in the telecommunications industry providing a key service to the community.

Numerous companies employ the Branchs members, varying from small contractors up to some of Australian's major corporations. Some of the Branch membership's principal employers include - Telstra Reach Optus Australia Post Vodafone ACMA AAPT Commander.

The position is based in Sydney and will require travel to regional and metro NSW. You will be responsible for encouraging workers to join the Union and act collectively for better working conditions.

You will do this by visiting workplaces, recruiting members and workplace leaders and developing their confidence and skills.

• Working knowledge of the industrial relations system.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven ability with legislative and Award interpretation.
• Proven ability in organizing, an ability to work autonomously as well as in a team environment.
• Current drivers licence.

Knowledge of contemporary industrial relations issues and practices and industry or trade union experience will be highly regarded.

Experience in negotiating and/or dispute resolution experience.

Previous experience in a similar role, or as a union delegate would be an advantage.

$55k - $60K depending on experience.
