Overview:

An opportunity is available to provide organising assistance and support, particularly in identified areas of growth, to the Sydney Branch Officials of one of Australias most effective, respected and influential trade unions, The Maritime Union of Australia.

Job Description:

Reporting to the Sydney Branch Secretary and working closely with the Branch team, the role is interesting and varied with responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Developing activities to engage with members.
  • Implementing and coordinating union campaigns.
  • Identifying and acting upon opportunities for growth in membership.
  • Developing and working to a work plan, and reporting regularly on progress.
  • Maintaining accurate administrative records and files.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

To be considered for this role, it is essential that you will have:

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong listening and investigative skills.
  • A proactive and organised approach demonstrating a sound work ethic and ability to prioritise and plan.
  • Ability to successfully apply for a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) and qualify for right of entry at the work sites.
  • Current Drivers License.

Desired:

In addition, it is preferable that you possess, or be willing to undertake appropriate training to develop the relevant skills to fulfill the requirements of the role:

  • Organiser skills, preferably having completed Certificate IV in Unionism or equivalent.
  • Well-developed analytical & research skills.
  • High level of computer literacy: - Advanced level MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel & Outlook) and; Intermediate level database.
