Duties of this role will include researching, monitoring and reporting on parliamentary developments; preparing submissions for internal and external inquiries; and preparing reports for officials and organisers as required.
Monitoring national political & policy debate:
Keeping Executive informed of political issues, as they relate to the public sector workers and the CPSU in particular.
Monitoring ministerial media releases, Hansard, committee hearings, Senate Estimates, reviews, reports.
Preparing submissions:
Engaging with members in the preparation of submissions Conducting preliminary research and drafting submissions
Preparing reports:
Preparing reports on issues affecting CPSU members as required.
Liaison:
Develop plans & coordinate activities to engage MPs around policy issues Preparation of briefs for members of parliament
experience: Essential:
Demonstrated commitment to trade unionism and its values.
The ability to research and draft reports and submissions and/or contribute to the writing of reports and submissions.
Organise CPSU member expertise and participation around pro-active issues to generate discussion, ideas and solutions.
The ability to establish and maintain various levels of communication within the CPSU regarding parliamentary developments.
Highly developed verbal and written communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively.
Ability to readily adapt to rapidly changing circumstances and work under pressure The ability to identify and draft issues for Senate Estimates and monitor outcomes.
A proficiency in MS Windows, MS Office and the ability to be trained in the use of other computer applications.
The ability to work to deadlines and under pressure, good written and verbal communication skills, good organisational skills.
The ability to work both in a team and independently, be flexible and exercise initiative.
