Overview:

The ASU is looking to appoint an Industrial Officer to its Industrial Services Team. This team works with members to resolve workplace disputes (both individual and collective), supports the work of organising, and provides expert advice to the union and its members on current and emerging industrial issues.

The team is currently comprised of five members, a Senior Industrial Officer, who co-ordinates the work of the team, an Industrial Officer and three Industrial Associates.

Job Description:

The appointee will be responsible for managing an extensive case load of industrial disputes and other work as required, would be expected to have appropriate higher education qualifications and have a significant level of experience as either an Organiser or as an Industrial Officer and be able to manage a dispute from the beginning to the end. The position is full time and will be based in our Sydney office.

The ASU will consider appointing an exceptional candidate who does not meet the Essential Experience and Qualifications requirements to an Industrial Associate position. To be appointed as an Industrial Associate the appointee would be expected to have a relevant higher education qualification and/or relevant dispute resolution or organising experience. The ASU will assist skilling an Industrial Associate to become an Industrial Officer over time.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

Essential:
- relevant education qualifications
- experience in advocacy
- experience in negotiation skills
- good understanding of industrial laws and framework
- commitment to trade unionism
- able to prepare and run a case to arbitration if necessary but with limited supervision
- experience negotiating industrial agreements
- experience appearing in industrial tribunals
- experience representing individuals and groups of members
- experience enforcing Awards or Agreements

Salary:

A range between $58,587 - $76,696 depending on whether an Industrial officer or Industrial Associate
