Overview:

The Australian Manufacturing Workers Union has a full time vacant position for an experienced Legal & Industrial Officer based in our Adelaide Office.

---
Job Description:

DUTY STATEMENT:

Duties include

  • Preparation and representation of members before Fair Work Australia, State Industrial Relations Commission, EEO Commission, Magistrates Court.

  • Negotiating with employers on individual and collective issues, representing the union and advancing the interests of members.

  • Providing industrial advice and information to National and State Officials, Organisers, delegates and members as required.

  • Researching, monitoring and reporting on industrial law developments.

  • Preparation of submissions for internal and external inquiries.

  • Maintaining and progressing variations to State awards.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • Expertise in preparing and presenting industrial relations, employment and discrimination law cases before Fair Work Australia, other tribunals and the Magistrates Court.

  • Well developed oral skills to advocate on behalf of our members in the appropriate legal system.

  • Experience in providing written reports, submissions and legal advice.

  • Ability to negotiate with employers on our members behalf on industrial and employment issues.

  • Well developed research skills to monitor and report on industrial law developments.

  • Demonstrated commitment to trade unionism and social justice principles.

  • An ability to work cooperatively with a range of stakeholders both internal and external.

  • Ability to maintain and progress State Awards.

The successful applicant will report to the State Secretary and be required to work closely with other state and national officials on occasion. A demonstrated commitment to trade unionism and social justice is essential.

An Administration to practice Law a necessity

Applicants should be able to demonstrate relevant skills, tertiary qualifications or experience in a related field.

Legal qualifications are desirable.

Salary:

Covered under the AMWU Elected Officials and Officers Conditions of employment.
