Overview:

The Queensland Council of Unions is the peak council for the trade union movement in Queensland. Its affiliates have a combined membership in excess of 350,000. The QCU operates in a climate of large scale and rapid change in the industrial relations arena and over time the organisation has adapted itself to promote membership growth and industrial justice in difficult circumstances.

The Industrial Officer will join a team of experienced officials dedicated to advancing the industrial, political and social justice goals of the QCU.

Job Description:

1.providing high level analysis of contemporary industrial issues;

2.preparing reports and briefing papers for the General Secretary and QCU Executive on a range of issues relating to state and federal industrial relations legislation;

3.providing advice, guidance and support to affiliated unions on a variety of industrial issues and processes, including the production of regular Industrial Updates;

4.representing the QCU in negotiations with the state and federal governments;

5.liaising directly with the ACTU and other state labour councils.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

1.demonstrated industrial research skills including case preparation and presentation to various tribunals;

2.the ability to establish and maintain relationships with affiliates, government representatives, community organisations and other key stakeholders;

3.the ability to represent the QCU in public forums and high level strategic negotiations;

4.ability to work independently and in a team environment as the situation determines;

5.highly developed written and oral communication skills.

Salary:

salary range $70,642 - $86,735 PA (from 1 July 2010: $73,467 $90,204)
