Overview:

position is part of the QCU OHS Unit which is located within Safework Queensland, a Standing Committee of the Queensland Council of Unions. SafeWork has its own Administrative Committee which reports through the QCU Executive.

The position is OHS Trainer/Consultant for the Council. To assume this role you must be appointed by the General Secretary in line with the QCU Recruitment Policy. You will report to the General Secretary via the Assistant General Secretary on any matters to do with your role. On a day to day basis you are accountable to the Executive Officer of SafeWork or in their absence, the Assistant General Secretary. Performance Appraisals will be carried out on an annual basis by the Assistant General Secretary in consultation with the Executive Officer of Safework and reported on to the General Secretary.

Job Description:

As OHS Trainer/Consultant, you will:

Develop work plans with measurable outcomes and implement identified actions in line with WHSQ grant requirements; Establish and maintain effective working relationships and assist to build capacity with affiliates, provincial councils and other key stakeholders such as WHSQ; Identify and develop training needs/requirements of affiliates on health and safety for their membership; Prepare training materials; Provide strategic planning advice for unions in the development of OHS initiatives; Provide advice on health and safety matters for unions and their members; Assist affiliates with their organising programs by identifying and developing opportunities to use OHS; Deliver OHS training for workers and/or activists as required; Provide secretariat and coordinating services for the QCU OHS Committees as determined by the Assistant General Secretary; Develop and co-ordinate statewide campaigns on behalf of the QCU in order to implement national ACTU Campaigns; Assist with the co-ordination and planning of OHS related events such as Workers Memorial Day, Workplace Health and Safety Representative Conferences and/or forums; Provide high level advice and reportage to the QCU Executive on a monthly basis and at ACTU forums such as OH&S Committee meetings and State TLC teleconferences.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

Highly developed communication skills Previously demonstrated initiative and motivation Demonstrated desire and ability to work collaboratively within a team environment Previously demonstrated experience with a training qualification Demonstrated commitment to the union movement and contemporary organising Demonstrated knowledge and application of the Queensland Workplace Health and Safety Act or ability to gain such knowledge
