Overview:

The AMWU is one of the largest trade unions in Australia. We represent members in the metals trades, printing, paper industry, vehicle industry, food and confectionary as well as technical trades and professions.

The Union has a full time position available for someone interested in becoming involved in the union movement.

Job Description:

The position is in the AMWU Help Desk which provides advice and information to the Union's members. This advice is primarily to be given over the telephone, or via email, and will be advice in relation to members industrial entitlements.

As part of this role, you will be required to:

  • Provide timely, accurate responses to the industrial enquiries of members and delegates.
  • Utilise and interpret industrial information in awards, agreements, union policy and publications.
  • Manoeuvre around industrial databases and intranet information portals.
  • Work closely with National & State Officials of the AMWU.

In addition to this function, there will be an outbound call component to the job where you may be required to call our members and delegates to advise them of meetings, conduct surveys etc.

You will be required to work between the hours of 8am - 6pm at the AMWU Helpdesk located in the Granville Office.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

  • A strong interest in Industrial Relations
  • High level customer service skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Well developed oral & written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • A positive attitude under pressure.
  • High level skills in Microsoft Word, Excel & Internet Explorer.
  • Quick, accurate keyboard skills.

Desired:

  • Tertiary background in Industrial Relations, Social Sciences or Economics and/or equivalent experience.
  • A commitment to the principles of trade unionism.
