Overview:

HACSU has an ongoing position of Communications and Media Officer at the central union office and is inviting applications from individuals who possess the necessary passion, commitment, skills and knowledge to fulfil the role. The Communications and Media Officer is responsible for broad campaign communications and media strategy which includes publications, newsletters, website and media promotion.

The Health and Community Services Union (HSU VIC No. 2 branch) is an industry based Union representing employees in psychiatric, alcohol and other drugs and disability services. We work as a team to win improvements for our members.

Job Description:

The duties include:

  • Plan, write, deliver, design and layout the Union journal.
  • Write and circulate electronic newsletters.
  • Write media releases and speeches.
  • Liaise with media outlets and journalists.
  • Write and post web material.
  • Manage and improve the Union website.
  • Work closely with the executive and other officials on campaigns and to promote Union awareness in the workplace.
  • Contribute to the Unions delegate development strategies through the production of resource materials.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

A tertiary education in English, Public Relations, Journalism, Media Studies or other relevant discipline (preferred but not essential).

Proven journalistic and writing skills.

Knowledge of HTML/CSS is essential.

High level of computer literacy.

Experience with all Publicity design and layout software (InDesign, Illustrator).

High knowledge of Web design and maintenance.

A demonstrated commitment to trade unionism is required.

Excellent time management skills are essential.

A current drivers license is required.
