Overview:

We are one of Australia's oldest and largest trade unions and are seeking a National Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Coordinator to join our National Office team in the Sydney CBD.

---
Job Description:

This role will provide support to the officials, delegates and members of the Union offering relevant and practical policy, guidance, timely hazard alerts and importantly direct inspections across a wide range of workplaces across the country.

The role will also provide guidance and practical advice to the Union on safety matters coordinating the overall Union's approach to OHS issues nationally with a preferred approach of practical and accurate application rather than academic and theoretical.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

• A clear understanding of current OHS & Workers Compensation laws and regulations
• A working knowledge of relevant OHS history
• Knowledge of changes to OHS laws and systems and related thinking
• A practical understanding of safety as it relates to hazardous, blue collar and manual industries
• Experience in public speaking
• Good writing skills
• A commitment to the principles and objectives of the union movement
• Experience working in an office environment
• Sound organisational skills
• Good computer skills, email, Word, Excel etc.
• Ability to manage your own work and to work unsupervised
• Willingness and ability to work as part of a cohesive team.
• An ability to travel extensively within the country
• Ability to exercise tact, initiative, sound judgment, discretion and diplomacy
• A current Drivers Licence

Desired:

• Relevant tertiary qualifications
• Direct experience in the mining, manufacturing, chemical, aviation, agricultural and oil & gas industries
• Experience in dealing with state and federal Governments
• Experience working for a union

---
Salary:

Conditions of employment will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
