Overview:

The Service and Food Workers Union - Nga Ringa Tota is a large union organising workers in a wide range of industries, in both public and private sectors in New Zealand. A position has arisen in Auckland Office of the Service and Food Workers Union Nga Ringa Tota for a Regional Director of Organising.

The Regional Director of Organising will be part of the Unions Management Team and will be involved in leading the strategic direction of the Union.

Job Description:

The Regional Director of Organising will be responsible for the leadership of all organisers in the Unions Northern Region, including working with them around organising programmes and plans, competency and skill development and how their work fits into the Unions national industry strategies.

The Regional Director of Organising will also be responsible for the development of activists, delegates and rank-and-file leaders in the region so that the Union has the capacity to undertake major campaigns that lift the wages and working conditions of low-paid workers.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

The RDO must be able to demonstrate :

  • A good overview of SFWU industries and members and the impact on each of the current industrial and political environment.

  • A clear understanding of and articulation of the organising agenda and a commitment to building and strengthening the Union.

  • An understanding of planning and monitoring systems and ideas for potential development.

  • Experience of leading and managing staff; commitment to a model of staff development.

  • Experience in legal frameworks and bargaining advocacy systems.

  • Familiarity with union structures and democratic requirements.

  • A high level of computer literacy.

The person must have a commitment to and understanding of, the articles of the Treaty of Waitangi.

The person must also have a good understanding of the particular needs of women, youth, Pacific Island peoples and other cultural groups within the SFWU membership

NZ$70,000 - NZ$75,000
