Overview:

The Union of Christmas Island Workers is seeking the services of an experienced union organiser or industrial officer to fill the position of Industrial Officer.

The successful applicant will live on Christmas Island, working out of the unions registered office at 61 Poon Saan Road Christmas Island. Succession to the position of General Secretary should be anticipated.

Job Description:

Duties include working with the General Secretary in the day to day operations of the union including:

Administration of correspondence, accounts, membership records and banking.

Attending to inquiries, organising and participating in meetings of members.

Representing members in meetings, discussions and negotiations with employers.

Research and presentation of industrial matters in Fair Work Australia proceedings.

Planning and execution of industrial campaigns and action.

Other duties as directed by the General Secretary.

Experience & Qualifications
Desired:

Experience as a union organiser or industrial officer Ability to produce and maintain documents and records using contemporary computer applications Ability to develop and maintain relationships in a multi-cultural community

Salary:

Salary$81,346.00 to $84,706 per year - inclusive of district allowance.

Superannuation 13% of annual salary.

Annual Leave (with 17.5% leave loading) of five weeks and two days per year.

Sick Leave - fifteen days per year / annual service bonus for unused sick leave.

Annual leave airfares equal to the value of a return economy airfare to Perth (or other place of recruitment) for the employee and the employees eligible dependants.

Information:

Conditions of employment will be the same as those applying to an employee of the Shire of Christmas Island. This method of setting wages and conditions of Union employees ensures that a nexus is maintained between the pay and conditions of Union officers and our members working in administrative positions on the Island. The rate of pay will be based on the Shire of Christmas Island classification Level 9.1.
