Overview:

An exciting career opportunity exists for an experienced media professional within the Australian Council of Trade Unions, the peak body representing Australian workers and their families.

The ACTU is seeking a highly skilled and dynamic media adviser to join our communications team. This is a role that has a national media focus within an intense political environment.

Job Description:

You will perform a central role in the management of the day-to-day 24 hour news cycle for the ACTU and the overall media strategy, and work closely with the President, Secretary and other senior officials and staff.

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

You must have highly developed verbal and written skills and the ability to produce high quality news releases, speeches, articles, and briefings within tight time frames.

You will have demonstrated capacity to exercise judgement, discretion and initiative within a politically sensitive environment, along with strong relationship building skills.

We are looking for someone with a tertiary qualification and proven multi-year experience in journalism, media relations or a related field. Research skills and policy experience are desirable, and a demonstrated commitment to the values of the union movement is essential. A working knowledge of social media is also required.

This position is based in Melbourne and requires out of hours and weekend work, and some interstate travel.

The applicant must be a permanent resident and able to work in Australia.

Salary:

Salary is commensurate with experience and as outlined in the ACTU collective agreement and includes 15% superannuation.
