Overview:

The National Union of Workers is a union representing workers in a wide range of industries including logistics and warehousing, food and pharmaceutical manufacture, auto components manufacture, plastic consumables and packaging, market research and contract call centres.

With over 150 staff and officials throughout Australia the Union aims to represent workers in the issues they face on the job as well as seeking to improve their working lives through representation, advice support and respect.

We are looking for a research officer to join our team in our Melbourne office. The successful applicant will have a can do attitude, a willingness to learn as well as the ability to work to deadlines and under pressure.

You will be joining a team of committed professionals who will provide opportunities to develop in the role. The role would suit a person with a background or interest in industrial relations, campaigning and social justice.

Job Description:

Responsibilities will include:

Undertake mapping and research into the activities, composition and stakeholders of key employers and industries including identifying trends.

Assisting in the development of campaigns designed to grow the unions membership and/or provide greater leverage for the union in bargaining.

Prepare briefs, research reports and strategic advice to campaigning and bargaining officials.

Identify and assess opportunities for engagement with industry stakeholders.

Developing and maintaining a database for use by officials. Whilst this is a hands on role, an appropriate recognised qualification will be highly regarded.

Experience & Qualifications
Desired:

The successful applicant will possess:

a demonstrated record of achievement in research campaigning and the ability to manage and provide strategic and tactical advice in a complex or sensitive environment, preferably with an industrial relations emphasis;

a commitment to the principles of unionism and social justice.
