Victorian Trades Hall Council

The VTHC co-ordinates state-wide union activities and campaigns and assists affiliated unions with research, negotiations and advocacy.

The VTHC is the central State organisation of the national union movement structure (ie. ACTU). It is responsible for communicating with the public about trade union issues. It is also responsible for implementing union movement policy within Victoria and represents unionists in lobbying State Parliament for social and industrial reforms.

The Youth Officer works as part of the Campaigns Unit and reports to the Industrial Campaigns Officer.

The Youth Officer will:

- Co-ordinate young people in VTHC campaigns.

- Train young people as community activists.

- Co-ordinate Union Summer internships.

- Initiate community youth outreach.

- Develop the VTHC web capabilities.

- Use social networking tools to bring young people into the labour movement.

- Assist as directed in VTHC and affiliate campaigns.

- Work with affiliates to organise and recruit young people to unions; and

- Work under the guidance of the Industrial & Campaigns Officer but within the overall direction of the Secretary and VTHC Executive Council.
