The Australian Workers Union

The AWU covers a variety of industries and is focused on growing the Union and providing effective service for its members. The AWU is looking for an experienced, committed advocate for workers to become a Growth Organiser based in the Sydney region, New South Wales.

Help create a better working life for its members.

Focus on growth of the Union membership.

Conduct campaigns to represent workers interests at their workplaces.

Negotiate with employers on behalf of members.

Handle and resolve grievances members have at their workplace.

Develop delegates ability to be effective workplace leaders.

Participate & organize workplace campaigns.

Effectively represent the needs of members at the workplace.

At least 2 years of effective organising experience.

Demonstrated record of growing union membership.

Demonstrated knowledge of workplace negotiation requirements, Right of Entry Procedure, OHS, and Fair Work Act.

Demonstrated ability to use modern IT, internet, emails & office programs.

Excellent communication and listening skills.

Current drivers licence.

Pay is initially based on experience and competency within the range of $67,000 - $74,000 pa. There is a generous superannuation scheme available, plus all car expenses and phone.

The AWU is keen for one or two additional officials to start as soon as possible.
