The Health and Community Services Union (HSU VIC No. 2 branch) is an industry based Union representing employees in psychiatric, alcohol and drug and disability services. We work as a team to win improvements for our members.
An opportunity is available to work with the HACSU as a Health and Safety Representative Support Officer on a 12 month fixed term basis.
The WorkSafe funded project is part of the Health and Safety Representative Support Program to give effect to WorkSafes policy of supporting and protecting Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs).
The position will support HSR's employed in Disability Services provided by the Victorian Department of Human Services.

| Job Description: |
HACSU is looking for a motivated person with knowledge and experience in OH&S, demonstrated capabilities in negotiating, networking and communicating with a range of stakeholders, experience developing and/or delivering training packages, and ability to develop and implement a work-plan to:-
- Achieve the aims of the program.
- Empower and support HSRs to undertake their functions under the OH&S Act.
- Develop and support HSR networks, including coordination of formal peer groups, mentoring systems, case conferences, forums.
- Negotiate with senior departmental management, solutions that aim to address identified barriers that impact on HSR participation, capacity, effective consultation and issue resolution.
- Develop and organise H&S information to support HSRs in resolving OH&S issues, including development of online training modules, and regional delivery of issue resolution and other training.
- Facilitate training for new and existing HSRs, and develop industry specific OHS training in collaboration with external organisations including other Unions, TAFE, VTHC, ACTU.

| Experience & Qualifications |
| Essential: |
Formal qualifications in OHS and/or extensive work experience is required.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Victorian Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004, OH&S frameworks and the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to provide information,advice and support to HSRs on the objectives and application of Part IV of the Act within the targeted industry sector.
Demonstrated experience in OHS issue identification and resolution.
Demonstrated experience and knowledge of HSR training needs and the ability to liaise with training providers to deliver training.
Sound negotiation skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Sound analytical and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to work to tight timeframes.
Demonstrated ability to work within project budgets.
High level computer literacy across a range of programs.
A commitment to Union values and holds a current driving license.

Ability to build relationships with HSR's and Management.
Understanding of how unions operate.
Knowledge of disability service provision and the OHS issues that impact on direct care staff.

| Salary: |
$65,985 plus super.
