Overview:

The NTEU (WA Division) is seeking applications for a vacant, full-time, on-going Level 7 Division Industrial Officer position.

---
Job Description:

This is a full-time, on-going position. It is based in Perth, with the appointee located as directed in two or more of the five WA branches. The appointee will be part of a team of industrial and organising staff working across the WA Division. Duties will include both industrial and organising tasks. The appointee is expected to have his/her own vehicle and a current Drivers Licence that is valid in WA but an exception to this is possible under certain circumstances. The Industrial Officer is responsible to the WA Division Secretary but will report on a day to day basis both to the WA Division Secretary and to the relevant Branch President(s).

Experience & Qualifications
Essential:

Applications for this position will be considered against the following broad criteria:

Possession of a postgraduate qualification or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience and/or education / training.

High level communication skills, ability to speak to members and potential members individually and in groups and also to communicate with university managements.

Broad knowledge of the operation of industrial and employment relations and the ability to present a full range of industrial matters to tribunals.

Experience with unions or community organisations and preferably direct involvement representing issues or individuals.

Demonstrated capacity to plan and organise campaigns.

Ability to effectively organise own work and to work co-operatively with Elected Officers and other Union staff.

Broad knowledge of the role and function and operation of universities.

Basic facility in the use of word processing and email packages and the ability to learn new computer packages where relevant.

Salary:

The appointment will be made at NTEU Level 7 and carries a salary in the range $82,815 - $91,433, plus an additional 17% employer superannuation component. The terms and conditions of the position are in accordance with the NTEU National Union Collective Agreement 2010-2012. A copy of this Agreement is available from the WA Division Secretary on request.
