| Overview: |
To deliver a range of HACSU courses and training aimed at improving the skills and knowledge of delegates, organisers and other union officials.
The position will work across three branches of the HSU - HACSU Victoria, HACSU Tasmania, HSU South Australia, to strengthen internal capacities and build programs that
develop organisers and delegates.
The position will involve considerable regular interstate travel to Tasmania and South Australia and overnight regional travel
within Victoria. The position will be located in Carlton, Victoria.
The position is currently funded for a 12 month period with a possibility of future funding.

| Job Description: |
The Health and Community Services Union/s are discrete branches of the Health Services Union based in Victoria and Tasmania.
The Branches are industry based unions with the membership base primarily in health, mental health, disability, aged, alcohol and drug industries - both public sector and community sector.
The Educator will work together with the union branches (HACSU Victoria, HACSU
Tasmania and HSU South Australia) to strengthen internal capacities and build
programs that develop delegates and organisers.
The position will assist the branches through the provision of education, mentoring, support and direction to organisers and other officials on campaigning and organising activities.
Reports to Lead Organiser.

| Experience & Qualifications |
| Essential: |
Knowledge and Experience:
• Demonstrated experience within the trade union movement as an organiser and/or union educator
• Experience in developing and implementing: organising plans, collective bargaining campaigns, and issues-based workplace campaigns
• An understanding of strategies to increase membership activism and promotion of union renewal and growth, as well as a commitment to working with unions to facilitate development in those areas
• Understanding and knowledge of contemporary industrial relations issues, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination, and occupational health and safety issues impacting on Australian workplaces.
• An understanding and knowledge of the Australian trade union movement, its
values, policies programs and organisational structure
• Experience as a union educator including both the delivery of courses, and curriculum development using active learning techniques.

| Desired: |
Desirable Qualifications:
• Certificate IV in Unionism and Industrial Relations
• Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or other adult education
qualification).

• Demonstrated commitment to the values and principles of trade unionism and
an ability to work with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
• Demonstrated ability to organise workers and develop workplace leaders
• Demonstrated capacity to train, coach or mentor people in a group and one-on-one
• Experience in the presentation of information and facilitation of group learning using an active learning approach
• Sound ability to identify and implement personal work practices that promote efficient self-organisation, accountability and learning.
