RTBU (Australian Rail Tram and Bus Union Queensland)

The RTBU is an all grades union and the Principal Union of the public and private rail and Tram industries and public sector bus operations.

The Queensland Branch has continuously grown over the last few years and thus determined that additional industrial support was required in recognition of our expansion.

The Rail Tram & Bus Union (Queensland Branch) is seeking an Industrial Officer to provide expert support, advice and representation to RTBU Qld union officers, delegates and members.

The Applicant will require:

• Ability to conduct advocacy in tribunals and courts.
• Ability to represent individuals and groups.
• Ability to provide Interpretations and advice about legislation and industrial instruments.
• Highly developed research skills
• Ability to draft complex industrial instruments.
• High level written and verbal communication and negotiation skills.
• Understanding of an organizing approach.
• Ability to manage competing deadlines under pressure.
• Commitment to trade union and labour movement principles.

A thorough knowledge of contemporary industrial relations legislation and practices is critical. Experience in the negotiation of collective agreements is desirable.

You should be able to demonstrate your ability to advocate on behalf of individuals and groups through your knowledge and/or experience. The role requires advocacy before industrial tribunals and directly with the employer. The matters range from interpretation of agreement conditions through to defending members who have or will be dismissed.

The successful applicant should have the ability to understand industrial tribunal protocols and have developed or prove capable of developing negotiation, advocacy and representation skills. desired: A degree in industrial relations, arts, law, or significant progress towards same. In absence of a degree level qualification an extensive number of years work experience as a specialist in the IR field.

Good understanding of Workplace Health & Safety legislation and practices.
